Division of Vocational Rehabilitation (DVR)

  • Pre-Vocational Training: Programs such as Skills to Pay the Bills and Explore Work help individuals develop essential workplace skills.
  • Job Preparation & Development: Assistance with resumes, job applications, and interview preparation.
  • Job Placement & After-Hire Support: Ensuring a smooth transition and long-term employment success.

Aurora Vocational Services (AVS) works with job seekers referred through Wisconsin’s Department of Vocational Rehabilitation (DVR). Our services range from pre-vocational training to long-term employment support, focusing on identifying goals, interests, and strengths to prepare individuals for successful employment.

Our DVR Services Include:

  • Prevocational Training:
    • Skills to Pay the Bills: A group-based learning program covering essential workplace soft skills such as communication, teamwork, problem-solving, and professionalism. Sessions can be conducted individually or in groups of 6-12 participants, targeting youth (ages 14-24) and adults.
    • Explore Work: A web-based learning program to help individuals find careers that match their interests and skills. Modules include career planning, first work experiences, and workplace readiness.
  • Job Preparation:
    AVS helps individuals create a Job Plan, develop a professional resume, learn job search strategies, and prepare for interviews. Our program also identifies necessary support such as transportation, clothing, and accommodations.
  • Job Development:
    We assist in job searching, applying for positions, attending interviews, and contacting potential employers. Participants can explore job shadows, informational interviews, and temporary work experiences.
  • After Hire Support:
    Once employed, AVS provides 90 days of personalized support, offering in-person or virtual check-ins and job coaching to ensure a smooth transition into the workforce.
  • Long-Term Support:
    For individuals with significant barriers to employment, we offer ongoing support through Managed Care Organizations (MCOs) to maintain job stability beyond the initial employment period.
  • IPS (Individual Placement and Support) Services
    A specialized model designed for individuals with mental health or substance use diagnoses, offering integrated employment and mental health support.

The Individual Placement and Support (IPS) program is a specialized employment model that supports individuals with mental health or substance use diagnoses in securing and maintaining competitive employment. Aurora Vocational Services (AVS) has provided IPS services since 2012, helping countless individuals achieve their career goals.
